Matthew Sinclair

Matthew Sinclair leads CCIA’s UK office and its engagement with UK policymakers across a broad range of technology policy issues, from competition to intellectual property to privacy and safety.
Matthew is an economist with 15 years prior experience working in public policy. He has worked on digital policy and strategy as an economic consultant for a wide range of organisations including the UK Government, the EU institutions and major media and technology companies. Alongside that policy work, he provided practical support to major technology businesses seeking to anticipate, understand and implement changing European tech regulation.
He started his career at a high profile UK think tank leading award-winning public policy campaigns and has more recently served as a senior economic adviser to the UK Government.
Why do you support the work of The Entrepreneurs Network?
It is much too easy for policymakers to neglect the impact of their decisions on entrepreneurs. Even when politicians and regulators nominally make decisions about more established companies, there is often a cascade of consequences for founders that The Entrepreneurs Network does vital work in highlighting.
What research should more people be reading?
Tools to Compete, from my colleagues in the CCIA Research Center and Engine is an important reminder that tech is an ecosystem that, more often than not, thrives together. Improvements in all kinds of tools provided by global companies reduce the costs of building a successful entrepreneurial business.
