Founders Dinner: Philanthropy at the Frontier of UK Science

  • Central London (tbc) (map)

A dinner for experienced founders to explore the role of philanthropy in strengthening the UK’s science and technology base.

The foundations of future industries are laid long before companies are formed. Many of the advances that ultimately underpin new technologies and markets emerge from work that is uncertain, long-term and difficult to fund through conventional commercial mechanisms. This includes the development of new scientific methods, shared research infrastructure, and enabling tools and data, as well as the cultivation of talent at the early and fragile stages of a research career.

At this roundtable dinner, we will explore the role of philanthropic capital in sustaining and strengthening this long-term, foundational work. This is a convening of founders with deep experience of building and scaling science-led companies – to share their operational learnings and examine what is required to ensure the UK remains a home for fundamental research and frontier innovation.

The dinner will take place in Central London – exact location to be shared when registration is confirmed.

We have a limited number of seats available to external applicants. You are welcome to request a place if you are a founder who leads or has exited a high-growth business at scale, and we will update you on the outcome of your registration as soon as possible.

All of our events are free to attend. Please get in touch if you have any questions regarding accessibility.

Renaissance Philanthropy builds thesis-driven, time-bound, expert-led philanthropic funds that accelerate scientific, technological, and social progress. Our model applies venture-capital principles to philanthropy: pairing donors (“limited partners”) with world-leading experts (“fund directors”) who deploy philanthropic capital against a clearly defined theory of change. We are creating a new generation of philanthropic general partners capable of tackling complex global challenges with speed, precision, and purpose.

The Entrepreneurs Network is the think tank for Britain’s most ambitious entrepreneurs. Over the last decade it has built a network of more than 10,000 founders, supporting them through policy research, campaigning and events that connect entrepreneurs with policymakers. It champions the role of entrepreneurs in public debate, keeps founders informed about policy changes, and serves as the Secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Entrepreneurship to ensure Parliament understands what businesses need to start, scale and succeed.
